It's been a minute since I made a za'atar recipe, so I got one ready for ya - Za'atar Fries! These are finger-licking delish and go so well with my homemade tahini sauce. Let's make'em!

pile of baked fries on a small white plate

How to Make Homemade Baked French Fries

Wash and cut your potatoes into wedges or shoestrings - whatever is your favorite shape! I leave the skin of the potatoes on for added fiber, but you can shave it off if that's not your thing.

I chop up 3 potatoes (one for each of us in my family) and coat with olive oil, it's about 2 tablespoons for 3 potatoes. Sprinkle the za'atar spice mix on the potatoes and mix well to evenly coat them.

Line a baking sheet with foil for easy clean-up, bake until golden and crispy!

    Mediterranean Fries Seasoning

The steps are laid out above:

    1. Chop the the potatoes and coat with olive oil in a bowl
    2. Mix your seasonings together
    3. Mix the seasoning onto the fries evenly
    4. Bake!

If you've never had za'atar before, it's a spice mix of thyme, sesame seeds, sumac (earthy flavor) and salt. I also added paprika, garlic powder and additional salt to add a little kick but not to overpower the za'atar.

    Dress up Your Fries

A sauce is a must for fries, right? I have been dreaming of creating a tahini sauce, so I finally made one! It's super creamy and goes so well with the Mediterranean flavors.

Use it with the fries or save it to use on other foods. Currently, it's my new favorite sandwich spread and veggie dip. Here's how you make it!

    Tahini Sauce Recipe

In a blender, add in ¼ cup Greek yogurt, ½ cup tahini, 1 clove garlic minced, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, ¼ teaspoon salt and blend well. Depending on your blender, you may have to use a spatula to get everything mixed well.

I add in water to get the desired consistency. Start with 1 tablespoon water and add more as needed. For a sandwich spread, it's good with just 1 tablespoon water or none. For a thinner sauce, you'll want to add at least 2 tablespoons water.

    Recipe Variation: Greek Fries

Here's an idea if you want to put a Greek spin on the recipe! Try tzatziki instead of the tahini sauce. Top za'atar fries with kalamata olives and feta cheese. For the last five minutes of baking, let the cheese and olive melt into the fries. Then top with fresh parsley.

    Conclusion

That's it! You got a Mediterranean twist on American fries plus a dippin' sauce for your next Mediterranean meal. Garnish with parsley if you wanna get fancy!
